Attorney Nicola Cummings earned BA in Political Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She also earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Mercer University School of Law. She graduated with a Certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research, and Drafting. While in law school she was a member of the president of the Older Wiser Law Students Association, Black Law Students Association, and various other student organizations.  She also earned a Master of Law in Forensic Justice from Virginia University School of Law.
Prior to attending law school, Attorney Cummings worked as forensic scientist. Attorney Cummings has over 20 years experience as a Crime Scene Investigator as Forensic Scientist. She worked as a CSI for almost 10 years with a metro Atlanta police agency where she processed all types of crime scenes including burglary cases, death cases, fire investigation cases, theft cases, and investigated various types of cases. During the investigation, she collected evidence from the scene, took it back to the lab, and processed it forensically. The forensic evaluation included analysis for trace evidence, DNA, fingerprints, blood spatter, and scene analysis. The analysis also included documenting the collected items using photography, various powers, various chemicals, alternate light sources, and a whole lot of forensic analysis that would bore you. The collected items were then submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations for additional investigations. She also testified as an expert on crime scenes.
Attorney Cummings is also certified as a Marijuana Identification Technician. She attended the annual training required to identify green leafy material as Marijuana from 2002 to 2010. Attorney Cummings has used this knowledge to win numerous Marijuana cases.
Attorney Cummings continued her forensic science in Iraq and Afghanistan. She served her country by deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom as a forensic scientist. She processed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to recover fingerprints and other forensic information aid in the War.  She went into the battlefield and forensically evaluated the collected items for trace evidence, DNA, fingerprints, and other evidence via the use of powers, chemicals, and alternate light sources. She also testified as an expert on crime scenes.
Attorney Cummings has certification as a P.O.S.T. Identification Technician, Field Training Officer, and Instructor. She has successfully completed classes in Latent Fingerprint Identification, Latent Fingerprint Classification, Latent Fingerprint Development, Crime Scene Photography, DNA collection, Trace Evidence collection, Marijuana Identification, and numerous others. Attorney Cummings is an expert forensic scientist. She has testified as a fingerprint expert, marijuana expert, and CSI on numerous occasions and in various courts.
Attorney Cummings is a Latent Print Examiner who earned certification through the International Association for Identification (theiai.org). This is entity certified forensic examiners in various forensic disciplines. She continues this knowledge, skill, and training by attending the annual conference of the IAI and the Georgia IAI (gaiai.org) annual conference.
